The “folk communities” of decades and centuries past helped young lovers – as well as those who chose or had chosen for them a more solitary path – in navigating the uncharted waters of self-and-other exploration. Our electronic nursemaids and internet communities today are poor substitutes, I’m afraid, when they do not share a moral philosophy compatible with shared human community, responsible custodianship, and general welfare. But aha! note that my one successful and truly wonderful marriage in three has come AFTER the Internet/Social Media Age was underway: I would never have met my wife without it. Here’s to those amazing and fortunate folks who got it right on the first try.
Indeed do we live in interesting times.
